Boys Over Flowers (꽃보다남자, Kkotboda Namja) is a 24-episode South Korean television drama broadcasted by KBS2TV in 2009. This is the Korean drama adaptation of one of the most popular manga of all times, Hana Yori Dango. It is the equivalent of Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden and Japan’s Hana Yori Dango, and thus making it the 3rd televised version to air on TV screens.

Everyone I know who is a fan of Korean drama is looking forward to the Korean version of “Hana Yori Dango.” The Korean title is 꽃보다 남자 (kkot boda namja) or “Boys Over Flowers.” A short teaser has been on air and I was impressed by what I’ve seen so far. They did spend money on this drama which will air on January 5th. Are you guys excited? I think expectations are high on this Korean version. Will it surpass or even equal the Japanese version which I like so much?

the popular manga has reached it’s 3rd level highest with the live action Korean Version of the ever-so-popular Hana Yori Dango series.

although we know the “hana yori dango” Based on Yoko Kamio’s Japanese shojo manga series has transformed in different shows in asian dramas~

tvN which broadcasted the previous hana yori dango (both taiwanese and japanese version) will broadcast the korean version. the series will be broadcast every Sunday at 3 pm. This original manga published in Japan from 1992 to 2004 and the film made in Japan in 1995. the Japanese Asahi TV in 1997 through 1996 broadcasted the cartoon version. Taiwan version of Hana Yori Dango, Meteor Garden aired in 2001 which gained a lot of popularity around the world. In the popular japanese drama was built in Japan in 2005 and at the next year the movie released.

The Japanese Animation/comic ‘Meteor Garden’ is being made as a KBS Drama.

Meteor Garden is going to be produced as a KBS Drama in the 2nd half of this year. Meteor Garden has the F4 members as the main lead and became a big hit. Meteor Garden with the F4 members was aired in Korea as well as all of Asia and got very popular. A Japanese version of Meteor Garden with good-looking Japanese actors, Mao Inoue, Jun Matsumoto, Tsuyoshi Abe etc…was aired on TBS.

A Korean producer has bought the copyright of Meteor Garden and is currently being prepared as a drama. A KBS representative said “Meteor Garden has gained lots of popularity in Asia so we are going to cast good-looking actors in Korea. Its going to be made as a Miniseries and aired in the 2nd half of this year.”

Meteor Garden is about a poor girl who goes to a highschool for rich people and meets 4 guys called F4 who rule the school. The Korean version of Meteor Garden is going to air at 10pm in the 2nd half of this year as a Miniseries.

“After the mega popularity of Meteor Garden first in Taiwan back in 2001 and then subsequently Hana Yori Dango in Japan in recent years, Korea is also set to have its very own version of Meteor Garden in 2008.

Popular Japanese anime, Hana Yori Dango will be adapated into a Korean drama. The Taiwanese and Japanese version of the television drama has achieved phenomenal ratings during its run and the Japanese version which was shown on cable television achieved pretty good ratings and earning lots of fans in the process. The company which will be producing this is Group Eight whose previous works were Goong: Princess Hours and Fantasy Couple. The Japanese rights holder decided to work with Group Eight after learning about it’s production capability after viewing Goong S.

By releasing this exciting news first, Group Eight has created lots of anticipation and hype over who will be taking the roles ahead of the actual casting. Many netizens in fact are already posting and discussing furiously over who their ideal cast should be since the news broke yesterday.

With regards to the Korean F4, the production team revealed, “We will be choosing based on their similarities with the anime characters. We won’t be choosing based on how popular or how well-known they are.” The Korean version of Hanayori Dango is set at 24 episodes, each clocking in at 70 minutes and will be shown on television in the latter part of 2008.”

Boys over Flowers (꽃보다남자): first episode

I caught the first episode of the Korean version of “Hana Yori Dango” known as 꽃보다남자 or “Boys over Flowers”. I didn’t watch the whole episode though, only the first 40 minutes or so plus the ending. I’m not going to spoil it for those who have not seen the first episode of the drama.

What’s nice about the first episode is that it’s a little different from the Taiwanese and Japanese versions. It shows how the female lead get to study in a rich school – Shinhwa Ko (Shinhwa High). That’s all I can say

KkotBoda Namja’s teens boost ratings

The new KBS 2TV drama series airing on Monday and Tuesday entitled “Boys over Flowers” (screenplay Yoon Ji-ryeon, producer Jeon Gi-sang) is off to a good start, stealing the hearts of teenage girls.

Ratings pollster TNS Media Korea says the drama’s first installment that aired Monday scored 14.3% in viewer ratings while AGB Nielsen Media Research estimated the figure at 13.7%.

The previous drama aired at this hour, “The World They Live In” starring top stars Hyeon Bin and Song Hye-gyo, posted 7.7% in its first show and an overall dismal average of 6.1%.

By gender and age group, teenage girls were the most avid viewers of “Boys over Flowers” with 19% ratings, believed to be attributable to the cast of handsome young male actors including Kim Hyeon-jung, the heartthrob of the boy band SS501. The comic-based storyline is also engaging.

After the first show, some pointed out the awkward acting of a few of the actors and some exaggeration in the story, but most viewers said the drama was better than what they expected. Some 4000 postings were up on the drama’s Web site by Tuesday morning, many comparing the Korean version to the original comic.

Anyway, it’s not fair to compare the Korean version with the two other versions but it’s inevitable. I’ll just wait for the whole series to finish before I continue watching. I really hate having to wait for five or six days for the next episode.
